1. These terms
By using legitdns, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you use legitdns for a company or organization, you must have the right to agree to these terms for them.
2. What legitdns does
legitdns is a dynamic DNS service. You create an account, register hostnames under domains we provide, and point those hostnames at your IP addresses. Your devices, your router, or our update tools can keep the addresses current as they change. Some plans also let you use your own domain. We publish your hostname records in the public DNS so other computers can find them. We may change, limit, or stop any part of the service at any time.
3. Your account
You sign up with an email address and a password. You can also turn on two-factor sign-in. Keep your password and your hostname update tokens secret, and treat the tokens like passwords. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for the hostnames registered to it.
4. Your hostnames are your responsibility
You are responsible for the hostnames you register and the addresses and records you publish with them. Register only names you have the right to use, and point them only at addresses you own or control. What you publish stays yours. You give us permission to publish, serve, and store it, only as needed to run and protect the service.
5. Hostname records are public
DNS is a public system. Anyone can look up your hostnames and see the addresses they point to, and those answers are copied and cached by other servers around the world. legitdns is not a way to hide a device or an address. Do not register a hostname for anything you need to keep private.
6. The data we hold
To run legitdns and keep it secure, we hold the information you give us: your email address, your hostnames and their records, and technical data such as network addresses, update times, abuse reports, and server logs. We use this data to run, maintain, and protect the service, to stop abuse, and to follow the law. We may look at it, and share it, when we need to in order to follow the law, enforce these terms, stop abuse, or protect people.
7. What you must not do
Do not use legitdns to break the law; to run phishing, scams, or spam; to spread or direct people to malware or other harmful software; to pretend to be another person, company, or service; to share someone else's private information without their OK; to break into the service or anyone else's account; or to flood, overload, or get around the service's limits.
8. Abuse reports
Anyone can report a hostname or an account by writing to [email protected]. Please include the hostname. We may remove hostnames, suspend accounts, or block access, but we do not promise to act on every report. If you believe a hostname uses your name or your copyrighted work without the right, write to [email protected] with the details and the hostname.
9. Inactive accounts
If an account has no activity for six months, we may close the account and free its hostnames for others to register. Before we do, we will send warning emails to the account's email address. Signing in, or keeping a hostname updated, counts as activity.
10. Ending access
We may suspend or remove hostnames, or close accounts, at any time, with or without notice, for example if you break these terms. You may close your account at any time.
11. No warranty
legitdns is provided as is, without any warranty. We do not promise the service will always work, that names will always resolve, or that it will be free of errors. You use it at your own risk.
12. Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unexpected losses from using legitdns, including losses caused by the names or addresses you chose to publish. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to USD $0.
13. Your responsibility for claims
If a claim against us comes from the hostnames you registered, what you published, or how you used legitdns, you agree to cover the costs, including reasonable legal fees.
14. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data, in general terms, and is part of these terms.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is posted on this page. If you keep using legitdns after an update, you accept the new terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States of America.
17. The rest
If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term, that does not give up our right to enforce it later. These terms are the whole agreement between you and legitdns about the service.
